Soniplas goes biodegradable

Not satisfied with reducing the energy consumption & carbon footprint of plastics production amongst the most popular polymer grades in the industry, Matrix Moulding Systems (MMS) have now proven the effectiveness of Soniplas in enhancing the flow characteristics of a biodegradable & renewable plastic derived from corn, potatoes and other biomass: PLA (Polylactic Acid).

Using our spiral test tool, we have been able to demonstrate a flow enhancement of up to 120%, compared with spirals moulded under normal conditions. This allows for more economic (lower temperature) moulding but also enables “hard to fill” part production.

Reducing injection pressure was also found to increase the effectiveness of the viscosity reduction – enabling the production of PLA parts on smaller injection moulding machines.
